Rachael’s critically-acclaimed debut book We Share The Same Sky: A Memoir of Memory and Migration is a memoir that tells the story of her decade-long journey to retrace her grandmother’s war story. It was released on August 17, 2021 by Blackstone Publishing. The book is coming off the heels of her award-winning podcast also titled We Share The Same Sky.
Rachael is currently the inaugural Storyteller in Residence at USC Shoah Foundation; she tells stories inspired by the 55,000 testimonies in the Institute’s archive of survivors and witnesses of genocide. In the past, she was a regularly contributor for Images & Voices of Hope where she published a column about young widowhood. She also has written for PRI’s The World as well as Boston’s NPR stations GBH and WBUR. Rachael primarily writes narrative nonfiction and this extends to her visual and audio storytelling projects as well. She approaches her work with a restorative narrative approach, aiming to tell stories of trauma and tragedy through a lens of resilience and recovery. Rachael’s written pieces are often accompanied by her visual storytelling.
